The Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Theater Foundation is endowed and administered by Sondra Gilman and her husband Celso M. Gonzalez-Falla. The Foundation supports persons and organizations developing and producing American musical theatre, including Lincoln Center Theater, National Alliance of Musical Theaters, the Vineyard, New York Theatre Workshop, the Goodspeed Opera House, and Playwrights Horizons, to name a few. The Foundation has given grants for the cast alums of Anything Goes, Sarafina, My Favorite Year, Wings, Avenue X, Violet and Parade, the Playwrights Horizons’ productions Assassins and Violet and for the Broadway productions Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Parade (1999 Tony Award Winner for Best Score), and Marie Christine. The Foundation is also the grantor of the annual Musical Theater Award, which was created to support and encourage lyricists, book-writers, and composers who are involved in the creation of American musical theater. This award is specifically given for past and future contribution to American Musical Theater. The Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Theater Foundation awards $25,000 each year to an artist or artistic team who has made and will make a unique contribution to the American Musical Theater. To be eligible for the award, the artist must have had one musical produced in the United States in a commercial or professional non-profit theater. |
