Jeffrey Lunden

1993 Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Foundation Musical Theater Award co-recipient. Jeffrey Lunden (Music) and Arthur Perlman (Books and Lyrics, 1993 Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Musical Theater Award co-recipient) have been working together since junior high school in Silver Spring, Maryland. Their award-winning adaptation of Arthur Kopit's Wings was produced at the Joseph Papp Public Theater in New York (1994 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical) and The Goodman Theatre in Chicago (Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Work/Adaptation). Wings was selected one of the "10 Best Plays of 1992/93," and the original cast album is available on RCA Victor. Other works include Another Midsummer Night (The Goodman Theatre, American Music Theater Festival), Once on a Summer's Day (Ensemble Studio Theatre) and three family musicals for Theatreworks/USA, including an adaptation of The Little Prince.

Mr. Lunden is a free-lance radio producer. He contributed several segments to the Peabody Award-winning series, The NPR 100. His stories have been heard on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Performance Today and Weekend Edition, as well as Public Radio International’s Studio 360, Marketplace and The Savvy Traveler. Mr. Lunden has also produced several award-winning documentaries on musical theater and Tin Pan Alley for NPR and appeared on the PBS/BBC "Great Performances" documentary on Rodgers and Hart. He has written incidental music for several plays, including Arcadia (The Goodman Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theater & Arena Stage), Syncopation (Long Wharf Theatre, George Street Playhouse) and The Disputation (Jewish Repertory, Coconut Grove Playhouse, The New End Theatre, London). Mr. Lunden is a graduate of Oberlin College.

Mr. Lunden collaborated with Louis Rosen and Charlotte Maier on A Child’s Garden, a musical theater piece about Robert Louis Stevenson, which played at the Melting Pot Theater Company last season. He has adapted Oliver Twist and Jason and the Golden Fleece for Theatreworks/USA. He is co-producer of Jason and Jeremy , currently playing on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Mr. Perlman is a graduate of Brown University.

Mr. Lunden and Mr. Perlman are winners of the 1998 Jonathan Larson Foundation Award. They are graduates of the MFA program in Musical Theatre at New York University, where they studied with Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim, among others, have received numerous ASCAP Awards and are members of the Dramatists Guild.

Mr. Lunden and Mr. Perlman are currently adapting Raymond Radiguet’s World War One novel, The Devil in the Flesh, into a new musical.
